Questions Of LUMS Students To Caretaker Prime Minister

Mr. Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, visited LUMS on October 30 to meet the University’s leadership and students. Questions Of LUMS Students To Caretaker Prime Minister. He was welcomed by Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, Pro Chancellor; Mr. Shahid Hussain, Rector; Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Acting Vice Chancellor and Provost;

Dr. Muhammad Sabieh Anwar, Ahmad Dawood Chair and Dean, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering and Dr. Ali Cheema, Associate Professor of Economics, Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director of Advancement apprised Mr. Kakar of the University’s strategic priorities, latest accolades, and its impactful research initiative.

Prime Minister Kakar shared his vision at an interactive session with LUMS students and appreciated the work being done at the University. He underlined that meeting the younger generation always translates into hope for him. He stated, “Youth are the future of our nation, and our expectations from them are very high. I’m thoroughly impressed by LUMS, an institution in Pakistan that is creating immense knowledge.”

The Questions Of LUMS Students touched on different topics varying from economics to reforms to social justice. Mr. Kakar candidly discussed solutions and shared his point of view. He expressed his desire to engage with students in the future as well.

Questions Of LUMS Students To Caretaker Prime Minister

Some students raised concerns about the Prime Minister’s punctuality. An outspoken student expressed disappointment, stating, “Sir, you have come to a university, students have taken their time, teachers are waiting for you. You still came 50 minutes late. I am ashamed that my Prime Minister, indeed the Caretaker Prime Minister, has no respect for knowledge.”

Election Issues

The students challenged the Prime Minister on his role, responsibilities, decisions, and actions as the head of the caretaker government. They also expressed their opinions, concerns, and expectations about the upcoming elections and the future government. The Prime Minister answered the Questions Of LUMS Students with patience, logic, and honesty. He shared his insights on making life-altering decisions without fear of making the wrong choice.

The students did not shy away from addressing pressing issues, including the delayed elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Prime Minister Kakar explained that the date of the election determined by the Parliament and not within his mandate. He reassured the students that this was an issue under parliamentary control.

  • “Sir, you have visited Jaranwala, where a mob attacked and burned three churches. You have also donated money to rebuild those churches. But do you think that this is enough to solve the problem of religious intolerance and violence in our country? What are you doing to ensure the protection and rights of the minorities in Pakistan?”
  • “Sir, you are the caretaker prime minister of Pakistan. You have a lot of responsibilities. You have to deal with the security situation, the economic situation, and the political situation. Why did you choose to come to LUMS? What is your motive behind this visit?”
  • “Sir, you have said that your job is to ensure free and fair elections in the country. But we have seen that there have been delays and controversies in some provinces, especially Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. What are the reasons behind these delays, and how are you going to resolve them?”
  • “Sir, you have been a witness to the history and evolution of Pakistan. You have seen its highs and lows, its successes and failures, and its hopes and fears. How do you evaluate the past, present, and future of Pakistan? What are your dreams and aspirations for this country?”
